Da Momma took dis photo when her brought me back in da house!
 {Note to Self:  Self, DO NOT do ZOOMIES around da pool anymore}

Her gived it to me anyway.

Oh dis was so humiliating!

{Me didn't do it}

Almost all dry and floofed up!

After all dis, Mommy was in a baf mood.  Sissy Autumn was next.  We's both all floofed up.

Better In Black 'N White :o)

***************
Da following words are brought to you's from me sponsor!

Thank you, Amber...
I wanted to say thanks to everyone who left such kinds words on our last post announcing Amber's progressive loss of sight and eventual blindness.  With POTP and all the prayers, we can't lose!  Instead we're thinking positive in the hope that the additional supplements will delay the inevitable for as long as possible.
 *******************
And, on another topic.....
It seems that Florida is usually in the direct path of a hurricane.  This time we were spared a direct hit.  Instead our friends to the North will feel the fury of Hurricane Sandy.
We're saying lots of extra prayers today for everyone in Sandy's path.

BE SAFE!

BUTT
Me is gonna let da Momma do me postee today.
Dat don't happen often so me hopes her don't mess tings up fur me!
***********************
Ok, Amber.  I promise not to mess up your blog!
{SHEEESH}

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who stopped by and left their condolences for our Benji, who crossed the Bridge on October 4.  Things just aren't the same here without our old boy.  We miss him so much.  Cancer and Old Age don't mix well, but Ben gave it his all and fought to stay with us as long as he could.
Rest in Peace, Bear!  We will never forget you.
**********************
Now on to our post for today.
We got some very bad news about Amber a week ago.
For quite a while we noticed that Amber was having some trouble focusing on things that were right in front of her.  We had our own vet examine her on two occasions over the last 18 months but he wasn't able to find anything that really indicated a problem and suggested that we see an eye specialist with more knowledge and equipment to get a better idea of what was happening to Amber's eyesight.
A week ago we took her to the specialist.
Amber has a condition known as
PROGRESSIVE RETINAL ATROPHY.
This is an inherited condition leading to eventual total blindness.  There is no treatment and no cure.

There has been some success in buying time before blindness sets in by administering antioxidant supplements.  There was a supplement developed for this condition called "Ocu Glo" which Amber is now taking along with fish oil, a baby aspirin, and a special antioxidant vitamin daily.

The good news is that Amber still seems to have night vision, which is usually the first to go.  So we're hoping the supplements will slow the progression of the condition and give her some more time before she enters a world of darkness.  Since Max is her littermate and carries the gene for this condition as well, we have started him on antioxidant supplements too.  He may not be affected but better safe than sorry if the supplements do help.

The big question is not IF Amber will go blind, but rather WHEN Amber will go blind.

Today we ask for POTP for Amber in the hope that she will still be able to keep her sight for as long as possible.

We have lived with a blind dog in the past and know that many of you have also had blind pets.  Animals always seem to adjust very well to blindness and don't give it a second thought.  But the pet parents go into panic mode.  At least I do, and I've been here before with my Min Pin, Serena {RIP}.  It just isn't easy.

Thank you for letting me "borrow" Amber's blog today.  We apologize for being MIA in Blogville since Benji's death.  We've been on overload the last 3 weeks it seems.  First we adopted our two new girls, then the loss of Benji, the delay of a big construction project here at the house (Amber will tell you all about that later on), and finally Amber's diagnosis.  I sit down to help Amber with her typing for her blog and then have to run off somewhere.  Hopefully things will get better soon.

If you're interested in learning more about Amber's diagnosis, click
for an article that pretty well describes it.

In closing, we have some happy news to report!

Max's chosen one, Anna Rose, is home from the hospital.  Max is off in the Weenie Mobile heading for St. Louis to kiss all her boo-boos for her.

Also, Mona and Weenie's Momma is home from the hospital and is recuperating at her sister's house for a couple of weeks.  She is going to try and visit the blogs, but will probably not be able to post until she's back home again.   She sends a great big HELLO to Blogville!

Stop by and wish Anna Rose and Sarah a quick recovery.

Amber will be back with a post soon.  I thank her for allowing me to use her blogging time today.  And I didn't even mess anything up {I don't think} .

Hugs to All

from all the way across the pond.  Their foster home just happened to be in Florida!
Now they are in their forever home with us.
We'll post more about them in the near future.

Thank you, Momma Tea, for letting us know about these beautiful girls!

LIVESTRONG 2012

TODAY DA MOMMA WILL GET DA FULL CONTROL OF ME POSTEE.
ME DON'T LET DAT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN...JUST FUR VERY SPECIAL POSTEES!
GO MOM!
*****************
Cancer is a terrible disease, one that rarely shows any mercy.  We have probably all had some dealings with it in one way or the other.  Our human family has been very fortunate and hasn't been directly affected by cancer.
However, over the years we have lost five members of our canine family to cancer.

Today I would like to remember our five brave dogs and introduce them to you.  If you have any time and would like to read their entire stories on my personal website, the link to their individual story is embedded in their name.

The first dog we lost to cancer was our dear
Samantha had both liver cancer and a brain tumor.  The brain tumor took her life.

*****
SABRINA was our second Doberman lost to cancer.  She began her journey to Rainbow Bridge on her 6th birthday.  Liver cancer spread to many parts of her body but she never complained until the very end, nor had any symptoms, leaving us in shock when we got the diagnosis.

*****
In 2003 we lost our TIFFANY after a nine-month battle with Hemangiosarcoma cancer.

*****
Our sweet SERENA was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and then developed osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her rear leg.  The cancer spread to her shoulder but the vet was able to successfully remove the tumor on her shoulder.  She was not a candidate for amputation due to her bad heart.  At about the same time that she developed cancer, she also became blind.  One night about 7 months later I told her it was ok to leave for the Bridge if she had to and that I would be OK.  She passed away quietly about 15 minutes later when her heart just stopped beating.  I believe to this day that she was waiting for me to tell her I would be alright before she could leave.

*****
Our most recent loss was TUCKER.
There were no symptoms until one day he started coughing.  The emergency clinic we took him to first believed he had pheumonia and found the tumor in his lung by way of an x-ray and biopsy.  We had to let him go exactly one month after the diagnosis and four chemo treatments.

*****
 **************************
Benji is our very silly boy who has proven to be a fighter.
He was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2012 and given only 2 months to live.  We are now entering his 7th month of survival.  We know this cancer will eventually end his life, but we're happy and thankful that he has the willpower, courage, and strength to fight as long as he can.  His age is against him as he is going on 17 years old.  This in itself is a true inspiration to all who know him and especially to his family.

**************************************
Cancer is truly a deadly disease that we just can't sweep under the rug and hope it'll go away by itself.  We all have to keep fighting, like Benji, and we have to do all we can to help find the cure.
Once again Blogville is joining together with Power of the Paw in the hope that maybe this will be the Year of the Cure!  One day the "C-Monster" will just be a thing of the past and we can say WE WON THE BATTLE!

We Love You!
DaWeenies of Florida
