Hello To All
Back in June our wonderful friend, Ann, from Zoolatry posted a request for prayers for our girl, Shelby.
A tumor was discovered on Shelby's lung and it was growing fast. It was first discovered about a year ago and our vet was keeping a close eye on it. It was finally at a point where it would soon interfere with her ability to breathe. Her time with us was being cut short.
Because of Shelby's age (13) and the fact that she had a serious heart murmur, surgery would be very risky. But at this point, we had to take a chance or lose her in a matter of weeks.
Our wonderful vet had a colleague in Ft. Myers who had performed surgeries similar to this, so he was called in to consult.
Surgery was scheduled for June 3. It was a long surgery. He had to go in through Shelby's rib cage to reach the tumor, which was located very close to her heart.
I'm happy to report that the surgery was successful and Shelby has now fully recovered.
Last week she went in for her final post-op exam. An x-ray was taken and the tumor is gone. We also received the pathology report. It was a malignant tumor but it was removed with clear margins and no evidence of cancer cells in the blood vessels, which means it did not spread to any other parts of her body.
